A new building for the academy was completed and opened in September 2012, providing state-of-the art facilities for all of our students and staff.
Throughout the building light and space is very much a feature which produces a calm learning environment for our students. All floors have a combination of specialist learning and traditional classrooms but also benefit from innovative open plan learning spaces.
The sports facilities are outstanding. They comprise a very large indoor sports hall which can either be used as a single space or, by making use of the partitions, be divided into three self-contained areas to facilitate side by side teaching areas. Outside, there is a large 3G all weather sports field for games such as netball, football and cricket. Students are also encouraged to keep fit by making use of the fully equipped multi-gym.
On the ground floor, there is a dedicated drama studio adjacent to the main hall with tiered seating, a beautiful dining area which overlooks an outdoor teaching and recreation area, and the Learning Resource Centre.
The LRC is the hub of the Academy, open to students before and after school, during lunch breaks and has late evenings for Sixth Form students. Private study is very much encouraged, as is reading for pleasure to complement our focus on literacy and the accelerated reading scheme. It also has the advantage of a promethean table - a multi touch, interactive smart display which has a surface designed for collaborative learning.
All of our specialist teaching rooms are equipped to a very high standard. Design Technology has ultra-modern equipment in all areas and an exceptional quality of work is produced as a result. There is a suite of Appple Mac computers for music technology, and another one for art. The art department is situated at the top of the builiding where the roof-windows can impart proper lighting for the subject.
Both hardware and software provision in the ICT department is excellent as the Academy recognises the importance and relevance it has in a 21st Century learning environment.
Overall, the facilities at the Academy are exceptional. If you would like to find out more, the best way to see and experience our facilities is to come to one of our Open Events. Further details will be available on our website. Please contact the Academy if you would like to visit at another time, we would be very pleased to show you around.
