Heartlands Academy believes that Mathematics is both a subject worthy of study in its own right and is an essential tool for students to succeed in the real world. As a result we aim to develop our students as independent and logical mathematical thinkers by introducing them to engaging questions and ideas.
We encourage students to apply problem solving skills to functional activities which will help them in their future lives and careers.
Since May 2013 Pearson have been working with schools and colleges whose innovative maths teaching practices have shown a direct benefit to their students, to deliver ‘Mathematics Collaborative Networks’.
These schools and colleges are recognised as ‘hub’ centres and lead a collaborative network in their region. All local schools and colleges are welcome to join our network for the West Midlands, which is a combination of face-to-face and online collaboration.
Mathematics education is going through major reforms and redevelopment. This makes it more important than ever for teaching professionals to be kept up to date, through networking and sharing best practice. The key to your students’ success is in what you do everyday to develop their understanding, nurture their confidence, and expose them to the range of mathematical experiences that will shape their success. We will do everything we can to support you in doing that.
Mathematics is a specialism of Heartlands Academy and is taught by exceptional mathematics teachers; this has been reflected in the department's excellent results year after year. We are aware of drastic changes in A-level Maths and would like to share our strategies for implementing the new curriculum in our meetings.
